STATEMENT
the cakes:
The imagery featured in these compositions has its origins in the pages of old, found magazines and books. Through alteration and reproduction, these pictures are transformed and then placed further out of context by incorporating them into surreal, painted environments. The resulting scenarios breathe new life into the original images of domesticity, desire and anticipation.
BIOGRAPHY
Roberta received her B.F.A. in Painting in 1991 from The College of Santa Fe in New Mexico and has lived for the last 10 years in Portland, Oregon, where she works full-time in her in-home studio. She has been included in biennial exhibits at the Tacoma Art Museum (Northwest Biennial: Building Wise, 2004) and the Oregon College of Art and Craft (The Inquisitive Object: A Biennial Review of NW Art & Craft,1999). Most recently her drawings and paintings have been exhibited in Portland Modern's fourth edition, Saturation and Portland Modern's fifth edition, Environmentalists.
