Collaboration 8

Collaboration 8 is what I am calling a collaborative art-making project I initiated in 2023 between eight artists including myself. I became interested in collaborating during the pandemic when Portland artist Tiffany Kirkpatrick reached out to ask if Iā€™d like to work on painting fabric for her handmade clothing line, Parker Simonne Designs. Our time creating together was engaging, fulfilling and opened my eyes to the possibilities of making art in unison.

Collaboration 8 is a series of 8 works on paper each created by the eight participating artists: Samyak Yamauchi, Helen Hiebert, Emily Pratt, Robyn Love, Liz Borowski, Jenn Foran, Pearlyn Tan and Roberta Aylward. Each artist receives one of the eight pieces to work on as they choose. Pieces are then redistributed between artists so that each artists has the opportunity to work on each piece once. There are no established rules around materials or process and the collaboration has been growing organically since August 2023. In the beginning, Helen created 8 sheets of 8 x 8 inch handmade paper to be used as our substrates. At present, we have just passed the halfway point with each piece touched by four out of the eight artists. The images shown are all details of the eight pieces at varying stages of the collaboration.
