Photo Amalgamation

Amalgamation is one word I use to describe my process of making things. Amalgamation is the action or process of amalgamating, or uniting. Amalgamate is from the medieval Latin, amalgamat, or “formed into a soft mass.” I have written in my artist statement that “a consistent motive in my work is to unite parts in service of a whole”. This parallels the process I have been fortunate to experience in mental health therapy which is an integration of parts of the self, young and old, lost and found. On a walk yesterday I took a series of photos as I approached the center of Irving Park from the east. Each photo, on its own doesn’t quite capture the expansiveness of the park. The process of combining several digital photos as one feels like a more accurate documentation of my experience, capturing the height of the trees in the center, the panoramic view, the oncoming couple with umbrella and the movement of my steps.
